Six Florida getaways for a little more us

Beach mornings, historic streets and unhurried dinners: six romantic trips to plan from the Palm Beaches.

Pack a little romanceExplore Together ↗

Pick the feeling you want first: a short change of scenery, a quiet beach escape, a city weekend or a longer drive. Plan one main activity per day and protect some unscheduled time. The suggested pace below is our planning advice, not a package or a claim about travel time.

Delray Beach · a one-night change of scenery

Choose a stay near the part of Atlantic Avenue or the beach you actually want to use. Arrive for a relaxed dinner, save a stretch of the next morning for the ocean, and add coffee before leaving. Ask the hotel about parking and room noise if you prefer an early night.

Hutchinson Island & Stuart · two easy-paced nights

Make the coast your base and choose a single indoor outing such as the Elliott Museum when you want a break from the beach. Reserve one dinner, then leave your second evening open. Decide whether being steps from the beach matters more than being close to town.

Miami & Coral Gables · a weekend with art and a garden

Pick one neighborhood as your base. Use our existing garden-date guide for a shared outing, then choose an evening restaurant nearby instead of crossing the city for every stop. Check hotel parking, transfer times and the actual location of any “Miami” listing before reserving.

Winter Park · two nights for cafés and culture

Spend a morning around Park Avenue, choose a museum that interests you both, and keep the afternoon flexible for a lake outing. Winter Park works well for a slower Central Florida visit. Confirm operating hours and the boat operator’s current boarding and weather arrangements.

Islamorada · two or three nights by the water

Plan around the water, with a waterfront dinner and one activity you both want to try. Check an operator’s swimming requirements, weather policy and meeting point before booking a snorkel or boat trip. A flexible land-based day helps if conditions change. Check the location and shoreline of the individual property rather than assuming every Keys stay has a swimming beach.

St. Augustine · a long weekend with a story

Choose a historic-district stay if walking between dinner, coffee and sightseeing is your priority. Pair a self-guided wander with one planned outing, such as a sailing trip, and leave space for the beach. Ask about stairs, parking and noise at historic inns. This is a longer trip from Palm Beach; check a live route before deciding whether two nights is enough.

Book the whole weekend, not just the room rate

Compare the total for two people: accommodation, taxes, resort charges, parking, meals, transport and the activity. Check the exact room, cancellation deadline, deposits, accessibility and travel dates. A cheaper nonrefundable stay is not automatically better value. A small planning ritual before you go

Each choose one must-do and one thing you would happily skip. Agree on your total budget, responsibilities at home, and how much driving feels reasonable. Check current weather and local travel conditions. Make the first evening easy so arriving feels like part of the break.

  1. Choose the destination and dates together.
  2. Check the route and choose a realistic number of nights.
  3. Compare the total stay cost and cancellation terms.
  4. Reserve the one experience that matters most.
  5. Pack lightly and leave a little room in the plan.
